Dating as a Firefighter Part 2
In my previous post , I talked about how it was dating a fellow firefighter. Now, I will talk about what it is like to date non first responders. The fire department is a like an extended family. Paid or volunteer, you become each other's family. Dating a fellow firefighter was easy compared to dating a non first responder. Fellow firefighters understand the burden and how somethings do not go as planned. When you are a volunteer firefighter, a call can come out at any point. It is hard to tell your boyfriend that I cannot go on a date we have planned cause of this call that has just came out. They do not understand how an emergency will just come up and surprise you. I have had some guys feel like I am choosing the fire department over them because of an unexpected emergency. Another thing that is hard to explain, is the relationships with the guys in the fire service you are close too.
